Personal background
I can't place one single place as where I'm from. I started in the Phillipines, and then moved all over the States. The military likes to move you. My occupation is currently as a caretaker and watcher, and it gives a bit more free time than you'd think. My interests are many and manifold, and to list but a few: reading, reading, and yet more reading. Anything and everything(save Ayn Rand. I just can't...)is in my appetite. I listen to far too much heavy metal, and tend to watch movies in which people are eaten. Hey, it's my mind.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run this because of my firm belief that we are not alone, and being involved in even a peripheral role in this endeavor gives me the feeling that it will hasten the discovery that much sooner. SETI is an interesting duality: we are striving to reach up and over our heads into the cosmos at large, while, to quote a favorite author of mine, we have our asses planted firmly in the mud. But we MUST continue on. As fond as I am of quotes, I'll give one more : "Local planetary civilizations are traps." All we need is one good impact, or a simple misunderstanding between two nations to make it all glow(suppose the massive radiation bursts wold help other civilizations to see us), and then it;s over until the next generation of dreamers and reachers tries again.
And as for suggestions, how many computers are simply tossed out on a daily basis? Get 'em, upgrade them to minimum requirements, and set up a TRULY massive computing network. It's amazing how much work you can still get out of an XT.
