Personal background
Hi! My name is Michael and I live in Canberra, Australia. I have been using S@H for longer than I can remember...since nearly the start, and will continue to for as long as the program runs, or until we find ETs ;)

I work for the Australian Defence Force in a rather unique job that I enjoy. I am married with a beautiful daughter and a gorgeous wife :)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think that probability would indicate that we can not possibly be alone. Intelligent life has to exist somewhere else in the Universe. To quote "Contact", I think it was, if God created such a vast universe, and only populated one planet, then that is an aweful waste of space. We could never have been meant to have it all for ourselves.

The debate over whether we should communicate with ET or transmit a signal in order to be discovered ourselves is obviously full of conjecture. Not everybody is as "friendly" as we are. Fair enough we may not go in guns a blazing should we discover someone that was in our capability to reach, but we would most certainly treat anyone that visited us with fear and suspicion. If we don't want to be contacted, then we should stop searching. Fear of the unknown is not something that human-beings are famous for. We'd still believe that the world was flat if that were the case.

My main reasons for running S@H is mainly the search for truth. I think religion wil have some questions to answer if aliens do not look like us. God created us in His image...

If we truly are to prosper as a species, then certain inherant flaws, such as Greed, need to be erased. If we had no greed, then we would have no need for an economy that restricts scientific advancement. Everybody working for the benefit of the human race, from the humble street cleaner to Bill Gates. That is what I hope we can achieve.

Just imagine what we could develop if we didn’t have to pay for it! If we weren't limited by money, then maybe this program wouldn't be necessary as we would already be out there, exploring. Diseases like HIV and cancer would be as uncommon as the small pox.

Ahh I am ranting :) Here's to a brighter future for us all.
