Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I first found out about SETI@home two years ago while working at one of the worst ISPs in America, which shall remain nameless. I run SETI@home on all my machines at home because I like the idea that my computers are never idle; they are all doing something productive every second of every day. Besides, if we do find intelligent life somewhere else, the discovery would be the most important event in human history since the discovery of fire. They are out there, as I cannot accept that with all of the building blocks we are discovering outside the terrestrial sphere, life has not developed somewhere else. I do think that the current approach to finding it is a shot in the dark at best, however it is the best we can do with our current level of development and a shot in the dark is better than no shot at all.
