Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home for many reasons. Primarily, I run it as I am one of the many who believe that intelligent life exists elsewhere among the centillions of planets in the universe. If letting my computer use idle time to look for alien transmissions, its a small price to pay for the vast potential benefits of making contact with a race that is possibly and probably advanced far beyond ours.

The only suggestion that I can think of is to broadcast our own signals into space. We are looking for intelligent life elsewhere in the universe. Logically, we can assume that they may be doing the same thing, scanning the vastness of space for transmissions. By transmitting specially designed radio signals, we could possibly increase the result of communication. Sadly, the only way to know if the transmissions work is to receive an answer.
