Profile: Snowpaw

Personal background
Snowpaw - nothing to do with snow - actually the family cat's name. Some days when I look at the cat I wonder if aliens are already among us and observing us in our homes.

Didn't have any good pics of the cat, so you've got me skiing. This may make me look athletic and outdoorsy - in reality I'm an accountant, so you know that can't be true - I just don't look quite so pasty-white with all the snow in the background. The picture was taken at Mt. Washinton, near Comox, British Columbia, Canada.

I belong to a group called Scotland's Seti, which may sound surprising in so far as my kids are 8th generation Canadian. But I did a masters degree in Scotland, and the family originally came from there, not that that matters with all the French, Native, English and Chinese that's been thrown in the gene pool over the last couple hundred years.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Of course extraterrestrial life exists - it's arrogant in the extreme to suggest otherwise. Looking around me most days, I'd have to say ET's got to be more intelligent than us. I just wonder why any self respecting alien would want to talk to a bunch of primative, self-destuctive beings who constantly squabble over socio-economic systems and tribal God images - but hey, accident's happen.

The Mrs. gets a good laugh at me looking for "little green men" and running seti@home 24/7 on as many computers as I can beg/borrow/steal- that's reason enough for me to do it. But just imagine the look on her face when ET comes knocking at our door! (Probably hungry - hope he doesn't eat us...)

This is a really cool experiment, and of course I hope to be the one to first analyse the signal that proves we're not alone in the universe - but if not, it's fun trying. It's amazing that we can get so many people from all over the world working together. Maybe those aliens will see some potential in us after all...
