Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Life has probably existed many times.

It may, many times have developed to the stage that it could send out
meaningful information. It is likely that this would last for only a
very brief time in the history of that particular manifestation of life.

The probability that intelligent life has ever existed at a time and at
such a distance from us that evidence of it's existance would reach us
during our brief period of intelligence would seem to be very small.

Equations which attempt to estimate the probability of finding
ET intelligence should have a factor of the order 1E-8 to allow for
the probability of such ETI being "contemporary" with ours after allowing
for their distance. -A "contemporaneaty" factor?
