Profile: Olorin

Personal background
My name is Lynwood Hines. I graduated from Clemson University (go Tigers!) in 1989 with a BS in Computer Engineering. I'm thrilled to be able to help my alma mater maintain it's position as the #1 university contributing cycles to SETI@home!

I am a profesional software developer and have been since 1983. I work in Charleston, SC with the South Carolina Research Authority in a variety of capacities, including web application development and automation of business processes.

I also have a masters degree in electrical engineering from Georgia Tech (go Yellowjackets!), and am currently pursuing a Technical Project Management certificate from The Citadel (go Dogs!).

My hobbies include home coffee roasting, videography, DVD production, SETI (obviously), and growing pineapples in my greenhouse.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home because I want to help humanity connect with other intelligent life if possible. Given the vastness of our universe it is utterly inconceivable that we are the only living things capable of sending and receiving signals through space. It's never too early to start talking with our neighbors!

I am a great fan of the SETI@home project in general. This project pioneered the harnesing of the quintillions of wasted computer cycles available on countless desks and laps throughout the world. While the ultimate result might be SkyNet (har har), at least for now it is wonderful that these cycles are being put to good use solving hard problems.
