I'm a 40'ish self-confessed computer geek. I live in Sydney, Australia. My job is... you guessed it programming computers. They are also one of my hobbies. In my spare time, when i'm not on a computer, I like to ski in winter.
|Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home|
|Hmm thoughts about S@H? |
Why do I run Seti?
I run Seti because I like to give something back to this world, even if its just computing power. Maybe we can even find ET!
Views on the project?
I don't think ET would have limited it/themselves to a small frequency range, so the odds of finding ET are astronomically (pun intended) small. I wish Seti enjoyed better funding to enable them to do many of the wish-list items.
Resurrect Serendip aka Southern Seti. That is use data from the Parkes radio teelescope. Not only would this give better sky coverage but also more data for our hungry computers :-)
Network bandwidth is also an issue these days. Maybe we can organise better data formats/compression. Use SuperHost as its called by the BOINC developers, to spread downloads/uploads to multiple physical locations.
