Profile: Lonnie Gene Carpenter

Personal background
Hello Friends!

ME: My name is Lonnie. I currently live in Kansas City, Missouri, though I was born and raised in Waukesha, Wisconsin. I am in my 30's and I have a beautiful 10 year-old daughter named Zaria Sapphire. Zaria, is what motivates me to keep going on so strong. Because of her, I am motivated to support her and keep her safe at all times. She inspires in me a strength and determination I did not have before.

WORK: I currently work with Hallmark Cards as the Senior Project Manager for Vanguard Packaging in the Hunt Midwest Cave System. Formerly, I was an educator at a local Montessori school and taught a variety of subjects, specializing in English, poetry, and physical science at the middle school level.

HOBBIES: I used to teach physical science (heavy on astronomy) and still obsess about it. I am simply addicted to astronomy. I have a collection of DVDs ranging from Carl Sagan to The Universe and I watch them religiously. I am a member of the Planetary Society and Kansas City Astronomical Society. I am also the founding member of DeVry’s SETI@Home team. I also enjoy listening to music, baking, writing poetry and spending time outdoors.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Why do you run BOINC?

Why not? Even if BOINC (SETI@home)never yields an alien communication signal, it still helps scientists process data, among many other benefits.

2. What are your views about the project?

I have a lot of views, which are mixed. Overall, I think that SETI@home is a positive thing though.

3. Any suggestions?

I have several suggestions for SETI@home. However, I need to find some more free-time in order to make substantial posts on how I feel.
