Profile: Dan Myers Sr

Personal background
We presently live in Fenton, Mi where, when I'm not doing Seti things, I design, manufacture, and market outdoor signs. I'm almost 53, happily married, with 5 adult children, two who tease me constantly about ET calling Dad, 6 cats, 2 birds, and 2 male 95lb mixed Husky Labs, my "Boys". My other hobby is working with leaded glass, time permitting, hasn't been much time lately.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes,I've always believed that there is life in the universe. All you have to do is to look up into the sky at night and look at the stars, the immense cosmos. How could God not have started life elsewhere, it would be a complete waste of all the cosmos.
I think that when the time is right, when we can show that we've grown as a species, ET will announce themselves. I'm convinced that during the time that we've been around,we have been visited by ET, probably numerous times, just observing us. Not the zooming around in "flying saucers", doing medical exams and such, but just watching and observing, and perhaps, wondering, "When will these people mature?" I think that if we discover a signal, and I am convinced that somewhere in all the data that has been collected by SETI, that there is a signal and we can't, yet, understand what it is. (As an aside, I hope that the persons who are cheating on their WU's, i.e. running up the count, aren't costing us the real signal that the serious ones are looking for.) The benefits of contact with an advanced society could help us greatly, maybe jump start real space travel and exploration. The danger could be that we could end up being on the wrong end of a microscope, or worse yet, dinner. I think that we should continue to "LISTEN FIRST", then carefully, answer back and see what develops.
I do Seti for several reasons, the most important, is for the science, and the chance, that, "is this the one?" The other is purely selfish, I want to be the one who discovers the signal and to be able to brag to my grandchildren that I found the signal from ET.
I seriously hope that the new SETI continues with even more people donating their spare computer time in this search for ET. My suggestion would be for a little more communication from management about what is happening.
