HI THERE ! I am norwegian, male, 48 years old, living in Oslo (capitol of Norway) and working at the University of Oslo (Chemistry Dept). I am very interested in whats going on in space. Love watching pictures taken from Hubble (fascinating) and I often wonder about "life in space" - could have been fun to travel around out there... So besides some photographing, "spacewatching", working at the University, I do the normal things (I think) and having "fun" !!!

| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Regarding the big question either we are alone or not, it would surprise me much if we were the only ones with a capability of communicating and having some degree of intelligence. But if we ever will succeed to meet these other "humanoides", I am not certain (that means, I am almost certain we will not ...). The distances are huge "out there". And this planet will not last for ever, neither will mankind. It seems to me that we (the humans) are the biggest threat to ourselves; if we keep on like we have done the last decades (wars, pollution, etc) this earth will have no human citizens alive within the next thousands years. And then what? Only insects to be around when the "big" message comes??? And we are not build to travel in space either (radiation, etc.). Perhaps we will be able to land on Mars someday, but no further out I think ...
And at last, I have a small suggestion to SETI ; What if it was possible to download a bigger data-package and use it e.g on my home computer, which is quite powerful (but unfortunate NOT connected to Interned)? Then I could let my home computer "chew" on this package and when finished, - upload the package and get a new one instead? Just as if my home computer where connected to Internet ...
