Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
As a child, I read the "Jan Monter"-books written by the Flemish SF-writer Julien Van Remoortere.
After reading them, I wanted to become a radio-astronomer, as my "hero" was in one of the books. I could hardly write or pronounce the word correctly, but hey, you know how kids are.
I kept on reading SF, mostly the kind of SF that sticks close to reality, not too fantastic. So later Daneel R. Olivaw was my new hero. ;-)
Then I read that book from Carl Sagan (you all know which one I mean). And again, the hero was a radio-astronomer.
My work now has nothing to do with astronomy, but because of SETI@home, I can now partly realise my childhood dream. |
