Profile: Cheep-Guava

Personal background
I saw the SETI@Home link on the Pages of Now and Forever and thought "What the heck?" and gave it a try. So yippie for me! I get to find ET in my spare computer time.

For those (unfortunately many) of you who don't know, the Pages of Now and Forever are dedicated to the game Star Control II, from which my username is taken. There are aliens called the Yehat in SCII who are my personal favorite species. They look like yellowish pterodactyls and have one of the more potent ships in the game. During the course of the game, you can initiate a rebellion/revolution amongst them and, with the same wit and humor widely found throughout the game, the leader of said revolution is named "Cheep-Guava." Seeing as how all other Yehat names are [INSERT CONSONANT]eep-eep, this has to be a reference to everyone's favorite Communist revolutionary, Che Guevara.

I found it amusing. Of course, I also found this amusing as well.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, I do think aliens exist. So sue me. In case you haven't noticed, however, space is a huge freaking place. The idea that we are the only species to achieve civilization is egotistical and borderline racist.

But what do I know? I think we'll someday build an artificially intelligent machine. Oh well...

I rather doubt that SETI will find any aliens, space being as "vastly, mind-bogglingly big" as it is (quote from Hitchhikker's Guide to the Galaxy), but the only way to find out is to try.
