Personal background
I am in my late thirties, male, of irish descent and have just returned home to New Zealand after 11 years of travelling overseas. The idea of allowing my wasted processing time to be used for pure science seemed an appropriate extra justification for my home network over and above the usual venal gaming and surfing.

Now I have to find Gordon's site (if he has one) to help in tracking large rocks with attitude in the southern hemisphere. That should cover Alien invasions and fists of God, but has anyone worked out how to look out for Deccan style volcanic events yet?

Oh shit, and now morons are playing with anthrax.
Just great.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have an open mind as to whether intelligent life exists. The size of the universe implies such a possibility, but who knows. Hence my participation here.
With the potential changes to our own species by planned design, would an advanced species with the means of communication necessarily want to communicate with ourselves when we are still so undeveloped?

Pray God (or wish for luck) if there are intelligences greater than ours, let them also be a damn site wiser and more compassionate than we are.

Good luck and best wishes

Shane
