Profile: Maikel Phoenix

Personal background
Well my name is Maikel Slemmer, I'm from the Netherlands.

30 for now but soon to be 31, nevertheless still going strong and plan to start a new education this year. Always been interested in Astronomy. And my future perspective is to do something with it, starting a new education with as final goal getting my grade for astronomy and hoping to find a job in that as well, maybe people calling it chasing dreams, whatever people call it, I'm planning to get it done, is there anything better then to realise your dream? well anything nicer doesn't exists, things as nice as that do exists, not going in detail here.

As for now I'm just a plain warehouse worker, at a major Logistics corporation in my hometown, atleast that company is only one of the many sisters and brothers my company has allover the Netherlands and Europe. I like my job but doing that until my retirement, I don't think so, my parents say, even if you like your job, you're capable of much more, having a job is a good thing, and you should use that time to chase your dream and make it reality, we know you can do it only you need to work for it, it won't come just like that, like most other things in your life where rather easily accomplished until now that is ;)

I Live in a small city in the south of the Netherlands, lived there all my life so far and I ain't planning to leave it anytime soon. Most of my friends life there aswell whom I know since childhood.

My hobbies along the way, well what almost every guy likes I suppose, Videogames, besides that I really like to draw, cook and love it to design websites. Used to have a really big website based on a videogame called Metroid, my favorite game of all times. This site at the moment is down but as we speak we are working on a relaunch on a new server, the site was so populair the past three hosts couldn't keep it up and running, as of now we are working on it with 4 people, and gonna use a local host for the website from another co-webmaster, when it all is up and running, I'll certainly add a link to the BOINC project on our website, the more pc's are working on this project, the better the results are right. Imo if people like Sci-Fi games like Metroid, they should have some interest in the universe all around us. Adding a link to here on the site won't hurt anyone, a few more PHP codes ain't all that much of a pain either, easily added and maybe convincing even more people to join SETI@home.

Finally back on Windows XP, so much better then Vista, took some time but computer back in working order once again, again thought about getting this boinc thingy but kinda forgot it again, as of now it's up and running again so let the pc get to work :)

Well I suppose that's about it, when I come on something new I'll add it as well.

As for now, as said in Metroid:

"See you next Mission."

"Then there are those who do not believe in extraterrestials, Instead they search for meaning in other human beings. Pray they are lucky for those who find it. For that though, we may not be alone in the universe, in our own separate ways on 'this' planet we 'are' alone..."

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Why I run SETI@Home, heard about it not to long ago but kinda forgot about it again, until I came across a link once again and decided to install it.

SETI Search for Extraterrestial Intelligence, I want to believe, we being alone out there I don't think so, as I wrote in my personal background, I'm planning to get some educations done to become an astronomer myself in the near future, being a part of this project only helps me, will take several years still before I come close to my final goal on the education, but as I can help being a part of this, gives me strength and hope to accomplish my dream.

My views on the project, well I'm not expecting results just like that but it is a matter of time, maybe someday in the near future my pc is just in the right position to intercept a message from outer space, and maybe when that happens it'll be the most incredible thing that ever happened to me, even if nothing happens I'm still being a part of the project, and yeah doing my part for our race, well my computer does most of the work but still, the idea I can help on this, is just great, nothing else I can add at this moment.

Suggestions I don't have yet, just started on the project and therefor can't give any suggestions yet, in the near future I can most likely.
