I first learned about SETI@home about a year before its official launch. I downloaded the application the same day it was released and have used it ever since.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
There are an endless number of entities and energies in the known universe. Many of these completley escape the grasp of our own comprehension.
SETI@home allows us to locate those of which we can comprehend, and untimately contact and learn more about them as well as ourselves and how everything fits together.
