Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@Home for several reasons. Growing up I had an uncle that worked at the Greenbank Radio Telescope facility and later moved to the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (VLA) in Soccoro, NM, I got to tour the Greenbank facility several times. I remember one time being allowed to put a pair of headphones on so I could "listen to space," I was pretty young and the memories aren't very clear, but an early interest in radio astronomy and SF lead to a fascination with SETI.

Also, I enjoy being able to add my processing power to all the other individual systems participating in the SETI@Home project to maybe make one of the most important discoveries in Human history -- contact from another civilazation -- its the ultimate volunteer project IMHO.

I am a firm believer that there are other intelligent beings in the Universe and that, short of visiting them directly, the SETI project is the best way to discover them.
