Personal background

Scott Michael Graves is currently Assistant Professor in the School of Arts & Sciences, Department of Science Education and Environmental Studies at Southern Connecticut State University. Dr. Graves prior work included serving as Assistant Research Professor of Education at the University of Idaho (1999-2004). Dr. Graves has initiated, and works on numerous grant-funded science and technology education projects for the Institute for Mathematics, Interactive Technologies and Science Education within the College of Education (IMITS). Among a host of technology-infused inquiry projects underway at IMITS, Dr. Graves is co-author and principal designer of the Lewis and Clark Rediscovery Project ($7.5M, funded by the US Department of Education: Technology Innovation Challenge Grants).

With graduate degrees in Education (Ph.D. University of Idaho) as well as Geology and Geophysics/Oceanography (B.S. University of California at Santa Cruz) and M.S. (Graduate School of Oceanography: University of Rhode Island) and experience in computer-aided design, scientific illustration and communications media, Dr. Graves has worked in the University setting as well as private industry and the non-profit sector.

Dr. Graves specializes in Environmental Science and Technology Teacher Professional Development for In-service and non-formal education settings in addition to teaching Science Methods. Prior course taught include Integrated Science, Earth Systems Science, Astronomy, Educational Technology, and a wide variety of education-related and project-related courses at the University of Idaho.

Scott was involved in projects at the University of Idaho including (but not limited to) Earth System Science (ESS), the Idaho Virtual Campus (IVC), Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE), the Lewis and Clark Rediscovery Project (LCRP), Life Long Learning (L3), the National Center for Online Learning Research (NCOLR), the Upper Midwest Aerospace Consortium / Educational Public Access Resource Center (UMAC/EDPARC). He has presented both formal science and science and technology education programs at regional and national conferences including NSTA, AACE, UMAC/EDPARC, NRMERA, GLOBE and a variety of Lewis & Clark Bicentennial Conferences regionally and nationally..

Further, Dr. Graves has participated in international environmental science and technology education programs in Finland, Estonia, Russia and Guatemala and Belize. These international endeavors have resulted in further grant opportunities and collaborative programs that model effective environmental science education melded with infusion of communications and Internet technologies for education.

Scott Michael Graves, Ph.D. has 15 years of experience as a research professional in Earth Systems and 8 years experience in teaching at the University level.
