Personal background
Hi my fellow SETI@home participants! I'm David from Innsbruck, Austria, born in 1989. Computer science and physics had always interested me, but my lack of aptitude for more advanced mathematics made me study law instead. After first trying and improving my legal skills at courts of law, the revenue office and the legal department of a large public enterprise, I eventually settled into tax auditing. Since 2008, I also work as a volunteer EMT (emergency medical technician) for my local Red Cross branch, both as part of the regular emergency services and for disaster relief in exceptional circumstances. I like to spend a good part of my free time on video games - not only as player, but also as creator, YouTube channel owner and - most recently - even as translator.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I joined this project because I believe that extraterrestial life is somewhere out there for us to discover. The first time I heard about SETI was when I saw the movie "Contact" (after the novel by Carl Sagan) as a child. When I later came across SETI@home, I was immediately intrigued by the prospect of being able to look for - and maybe eventually discover - signals from outer space on my own hardware.
