I'm a semi-retired language teacher (and perpetual student), originally from Chicago, UW-Madison alum. BOINC projects present interesting challenges (SETI and Rosetta at present), looking into the very distant and the very small in this universe. Contributing to SETI is an ultimate expression of optimism! There are simply too many habitable planets out there for us to be truly alone.
SETI is a venture that knows no national boundaries. My languages are English and French - but any communication with intelligent extraterrestrials will have to be in a universal language. Reference: the film Contact.
