Personal background
I am a resident of Charleston, West Virginia. I work for a company which owns 5 radio stations. I am the computer engineer for the site, and would have loved to put SetiAtHome on the servers, but you know how the bosses are in some companies. I have always had an interest in space, as well as my wife, step-daughter and future baby girl soon to be brought into this world. I am also an Amateur Radio operator, and have fun listening at night to spurious signals from who knows where. One of my greatest memories was the trip to Greenbank Observatory. I was just a lad of 8yrs old when we went there, but it amazed me nonetheless. Anyways, please pass the word on to your friends and family to utilize the software that will help SETI reach their goal. Now only if they would name a star after my last name...then there would be proof of a Hicks in space. 73's and happy hunting.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1) Oh yes...there is life out there...be it any form of matter we know of, there is life out there. I believe, that if the radio telescopes from all locations were to work together on fixed locations at different times (due to the earth moving much faster than the speed of smell [small joke]), as well as the resources we provide SETI by using a few cycles of our processor time, we could cover our solar system and perhaps galaxy/universe much faster. A passive scanning technique would be beneficial towards finding life, and would be a safe way of saying "Hello".
2) A beacon would be useful. In amateur radio, we use beacons at all times to either tune or home in on a frequency that is out there. As for a message, it would be somewhat difficult to determine if the receiving party could understand what we send.
3) I run Seti@home because I feel that the search for E.T. intelligence is a fun project. The scientists can scan the stars, while the common man does the number crunching...saves SETI big bucks from buying CPU's. If anyone has a spare computer that was "once" top of the line, USE IT...slap a NIC card in it, hook it up to your ISP, load SETI@home, and help out a group of cool brains who might make our dreams come true.
