Personal background
I'm a 51 year old white male. I grew up in a lower middle class family. I aquired my Bacheloriate in 1993 at the age of 38. I worked in Software Engineering for ten years after graduation, but I am now on disability. I have always been interested in science, especially the Cosmos. While I attended Colorado State University at Fort Collins, Colorado, I considered Astronomy and Astrophysics as a possible route, but decided against it due to my age. Now I wish I had gone that way.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
My eyes are always turned skyward hoping for a sighting. I do believe there are extraterestrials visiting, or possibly co-existing with us, planet Earth. Personally, I'm surprized SETI has not detected anyone yet. But the scale of the universe is not easy to fathom. Focusing on a couple hundred stars is not even mentionable in the whole scheme of things. I hope I am alive to see your discovery. That would be exciting, but also frightening. What are they like? What kind of environment did they exist in? Do they believe in God? The same God? A different God? I think even if we did find someone to communicate with, we would not be able to. Possibly they would have the ability to communicate with us. Dr. Hawking suggested we lay low because of the history we have. I wonder if beings advanced enough for intergalactic travel would even think the way we do. Maybe we are a poor excuse for a humanoid. Maybe they travel for generations because that's how their society is. I think it's interdimensional. Dr. Sostec(sp.) stated that he does not believe we have been visited. Maybe he has seen this, but there is a clip of a sighting in Salida, Colorado, by Tim Edwards and his daughter. Here is the link:
http://www.qtm.net/~geibdan/tim.html. This thing was using a technology I doubt we have even thought about. Truly amazing.
