Personal background
I'm Mike.
I was born in Northern Kentucky back around 1958. I have degrees from several universities, but I most enjoyed one summer at Dartmouth College, New Hampshire about 15 years ago. What a perfect place. It may be Shambala.....

I've been married for 25 years to my beautiful Yoga-Master wife who wishes I looked more like Rodney Yee (hell, so do I!). We have three healthy, intelligent, compassionate kids, two of whom are now adults and one teenager. No one in my family has ever been arrested, incarcerated, or has committed anything approaching a felony. Imagine that.

I'm a computer geek, cyclist, progressive-socialist political activist, wiccan-pagan-buddhist, and high school teacher. My favorite place is anywhere miles out into any old forest, standing still, breathing, listening, and weeping with joy that there are still a few places in the United States that haven't been eaten up by the Neo-Con-Nazi corporate-industrial-death-and-profit-machine currently running our poor country, Damn 'em all to hell.

Hey, you asked.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It is statistically impossible that there ISN'T (or wasn't) intelligent life out there, although I usually doubt that Humanity itself should qualify....

I've run Seti@home off and on for years. Once I had a whole computer lab running Seti@Home during off-hours until I was told to stop wasting all that electricity. (I did shut it down a few months later....) Whenever I rebuild an old computer (a hobby) I'll use it to run Seti when I can. I'm currently building a Linux cluster of old P3's that I'll use to run Seti. If there is a non-corporate, scientific, health-related research project that can use some number-crunching supported by BOINC, I'll run that, too. But SETI has the coolest screen-saver I've seen.

Suggestions? Only one. Never stop, even after you've found the first non-terrestrial civilization of intelligent beings.

And thanks for the opportunity to allow us little people to do our small part.
