Personal background

... etely amazing!

I can't believe my new computer system makes a dent against all you amazing people involved in this project.

Hi everyone. I'm glad to be here, and I'm glad I got on this train when the seti team first created BOINC.

Being part of this huge social group is mind blowing, and I appreciate all of you for making this possible.

Lets see if can get Microsoft to include BOINC in their Windows Update software for all the OS's! Imagine that!

A nice popup message asking users if they want to get involved. A really cool professional website that potentially millions of MS customers will go too, to check out.

A dream as crazy as the people that don't find our technology and science useful think we are being part of BOINC. But an interesting dream none the less.

An amazing world were the projects we run now are but a fraction of what is possible for people all over the world! haha Crazy stuff.

Just think of the RAW PROCESSING POWER, we can choose to tame this, to our common trait of discovery.

See the potential of hundreds of millions of computers using BOINC and what could be achieved.

- At most 1 Gigabyte of hard drive space per typical host. With the typical computer having more then 80GB.
- Less then 20MB a day of network traffic when most of the world has broadband, with Gigabyte upload/download quota's.
-CPU speeds over 2Ghz are just so common.
-1500+ MIPS is just so common per computer.

10's of millions time 1500MIPS is just amazing power!

Anyway. it is compl ...

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
08 May 2007
------------
I joined in August 1999! Looking forward to my personal 10th year of being in this massive experiment. I suspect the biggest science experiment I know off.

Collectively we have spent billions of dollars building our computers systems, paying for our internet connections. Let alone the infructure of this science project is worth how much? 10's of billions?

Amazing stuff. I'd like to thank everyone. Kudo's to all!

Sometime in the past.
---------------------
I have been running seti@home for almost 5 years now. Initially I caught on about it on Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). Then discovered more due to my programming interests and the beginning of decentralised programming ideologies.
Initially I had that nieve attitude towards seti. Who knows we might find something, wouldn't it be cool. As the years pass, I have thought more on the topic, and read more on the topic, I realise how futile seti@home is, and have been waiting for more ambitious projects to come around and really start examining the universe for signs of more life. BIONC (finally ! Why did it take so long !!) is the natural progression towards this search, and with the new Telescopes popping up and volentering more bandwidth to examine, we should be able to increase the odds more in our favour of finding life, if not interesting cosmological physics.

Suggestions ?
Get Folding@home on to BIONC ! And that fighting AIDS bunch. Weather predicion, nuclear physics, other types of chemistry, such a nanobased technological applications. AI applications and exploration.

A more advanced user interface for the BOINC client. Still looks very beta'ish. Could do with a bit of sprucing up. Good eye candy always helps move a product. More features in the seti part.

Think about using legal XML to get the standard going so others can use BIONC realiably without having to worry about custom stuff and documentation.

Documentation on BIONC and how to make applications for it, would be great !

Upgrade the website, especially the accounts section.. Possibly an Seti@home my homepage sort of idea. So when you go to the link, log in (use cookies for automatic logging) so we can see out stats and choice of information on the seti@home website all in one go. One page, quick look, update brain, move on...
