Personal background
Hello, I'm from Murray, Utah, but I'm going to school at Bryn Mawr College in the suburbs of Philadelphia. I'm a physics major and astronomy minor, but I'm also an Italian minor (to save my sanity ;) ). I've done some research in the field of optical quasar variability, but I think I'd like to do cosmology or particle physics at grad. school. I wish I could say I have hobbies, but school takes up ALL of my time. Just kidding! I like baking (only desserts, none of that healthy food stuff!), I do some Scottish and English country dancing, and I love to read fantasy novels - though I'm pretty picky about who I'll read. Two of my favourite authors are Juliet Marillier and Charles deLint. I also like to travel, and I just got back from studying abroad at St. Andrews University in Scotland for a few months.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
This project is amazing. If for no other reason than the screen saver! I get so many questions about it - everyone loves it! But seriously, the projects let people stay connected with science community and if science isn't made available for everyone what good is it? And the screen saver is a brillianty way to run the program. I get to explain it to so many people who wonder what in the world it is and then they go look it up on the internet and download it. That's how I got started, I saw it on the computers of a couple of my professors. I love that in a small way I'm helping this research that I've always believed in.
