Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It does, definitely.
Extraterrestrial life will be discovered on or about the 5th of February, 2088, via a transmission originating on another planet.
Benefits are the likelyhood of continualy technological growth as well as a greater understanding of our universe.
Dangers are obviously the loss of "privacy" - Other life forms may be colonial instead of familial.

We have already sent beacons via our wireless transmissions for years.

I run SETI because I believe it is the most important effort in "paying attention" to the universe and the possibility of non-earth transmissions.

The project represents very forward thinking mentality, as well as the absence of the original "Star Trek"'s human pompousity, and earth-centric values. Humility is a core element of investigations of this kind.
