Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Astro physicists have suggested that it is likely that the Universe is not old enough (conversely, too large) for us to expect to detect another intelligence. Nevertheless a fortuitously close intelligence might be detected by SETI. The massively parallel data processing by SETI is a necessary part of detecting our cosmic neighbors. SETI gives us a noble way to employ the otherwise wasted cycles on our personally owned CPU's in the search for cosmic neighbors.
