Profile: Aidan

Personal background
I have always taken an interest in politics; both party politics and also the general structures and the interplay of personalities of the main and upcoming party’s on the political scene. That is why I am currently taking the subject as at A level, and feel that it has provided me with intellectual, initiative and an imagination for political and social problems. A clash of interests made it impossible for me to take economics at A level. Therefore, I have continued to follow economic issues because I believe that political decisions are taken partly on the intended result but also on the economic health of the country as a hole, and so what is best for the country can be said to be best for the survival of a government. In addition to the above two subjects I have a keen interest in philosophy, a subject that I am currently studying at A level. I feel it has and is currently broadening my analytical skills and has developed my ability to have a questionable mind in addition to understanding the complex world in which we live in today.

During attendance at College, I have expanded my religious understanding by taking part in an array of ministerial groups on offer. These include the schools, justice and peace group (Arrupe group), which I feel, has broadened my outlook of the world by understanding tyranny in developed and developing countries. The retreat group (Loyola group) this I feel has developed my communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills via the dealings with older and younger college members. Eucharistic minister group (Ogilvie group) which has help with my religious belief and has gone in conjunction with my experience as a alter server for my local parish church. The peer mentoring group, which I feel has enabled me to work with younger members of the college to over come their difficulties and further integrate them into the college community. Moreover I feel that my position as a prefect help gain respect from these young gentlemen and enable my task to become easier as well as portray an image of integrity and reliability to the rest of the college community. In addition, I am an active member of both the sixth form committee, which strives to improve the rights of sixth form members at our college, and the politics society, which meet to discuss and organise debates regarding current political issues. Finally, the combined cadet force (army section) of which I felt developed my Interpersonal skills, Communication skills both spoken and written, Self-reliance, resilience, objectivity and perspective.
I have also participated in charity work for the Enfield HCPT charity, of which I participated in the chase farm garden project; this also improved my interpersonal skills.

Out of college life, I am an active member of a gym in which I enjoy swimming, boxing, judo and cycling.
I aspire to work in a branch of the civil service, because I would enjoy the challenge of working in a politically charged environment.
