Personal background
Xheralt (Gary) turned 40 in 2005, and is a science-fiction and anime/manga fan of long standing. Like most Wisconsin residents, he is a Packers fan, though not as rabidly so as the stereotypical 'cheesehead'. He works as a Production Assistant for a small Milwaukee-based specialty exhibition company, and is often on the road for months at a time.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@Home because while I'd like to think we're not alone in the universe, I'd like proof. I'm skeptical about 'visitations' and other such conspiracy theories.

Personally, I think our relations with extraterrestrial species are most likely to be through paleontologic means -- either us looking at their ruins and remnants, or them looking at ours. The time scale of the universe is so vast, dwarfing even our sense of geologic time, we'd be very lucky to exist in the same time-frame AND be close enough to be within reach of extraterrestrial civilization. I woudn't mind being proven wrong, though :)

Assuming we ever succeed in 'leaving the cradle' to go look.
