Personal background
Hi, my name is Juan Scheepers and I work for a company called Deloitte Consulting. I'm a support engineer and enjoy my work extremely. I studied medicine but after four years of that I went over to computers. What a difference !!! Living in South Africa is actually very cool. We have all the climates you can think of, from deserts to vast forests. Also, we have 11 official home languages and just about kind of nationality here. I think that's what making South Africa so unique. Seti gives us the opportunity to search for possible life out there. Just think how different "they" will be from us. The very thought of that contact day excites me.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Hmmm, do I think there is life out there? OF COURSE!!!! Do you really think that we are the only beings here? HELLO!!! Just to a small calculation - if there is life on 1 out of a thousand planets, can you imagine on how many worlds right now there might be beings thinking the same thing - "Are we really alone out here?"

I think we should let others out there know that we are here. We should send the details of our location.

I run the SETI program because I don't want be left out. Besides, it might just be my unit that discovers them. This is something for all of humankind, not just one person or an organization. If you've got a computer, USE IT for something good.
