Personal background
Obviously I am Scottish.
I live in South Germany where I spend most of my spare time eating porridge, wearing the kilt, playing the bagpipes, tossing the caber (Nike now make a small Nordic Caber), drinking whisky and of course telling everyone how great Scotland and the Scots are.

I spend most of my working time here in Germany either teaching about computers and communications in English or working on my employer\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s web delivery.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I ran SETI back home in Scotland for a long time and when I moved over here I installed it again.

I tried running the climate prediction experiment but it seemed to hog the pc all the time or just crash it so I had to press the big Detach button.

I think SETI is a very interesting activity although paradoxicaly I am pondering Fermi\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s \\\\\\\\\\\\\\"Where is everyone?\\\\\\\\\\\\\\".

The graphics look cool and Germans are always very impressed by something so esoteric and purposeful - they always tend to go on adventure holidays in the Himalayas so SETI is the sort of foothills of the Scientific Everest!
