Personal background |
Last year I came into some money, and decided to build myself a new computer with video editing in mind. My computer hasn't been doing anything stressful in a long time, and I felt my CPU cycles were going to waste. I've always known about the SETI@home project, and I felt it would be a great use of my resources.
Along the way I have managed to start a small computer repair business while still attending college at the University of South Carolina, as well as holding a job in the USC geology department, programming in Java. If you'd like to contact me for any reason, you can find me on AOL Instant Messenger with the screen name: "LOA esipseD I". |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I joined SETI@home just as the new BOINC manager was being introduced, and shortly after joining, the entire system went down for a week. That was what my first week with this project was like.
I'm glad to see a project of this size and ingenuity still chugging along. I believe that life exists on many other planets. It is not as fickle as so many people believe. I'd like to help search for their signals from space if all it will take is a little energy from my entirely under-utilized computer.
It's so hard not to sound like an unapproachable, zero-social skills, wild-eyed super-nerd when talking about astronomy =] |
