Personal background |
I'm 68, a retired engineer, and a ham radio operator for 54 years now. I live in Auburn CA, about 35 mi NE of Sacramento, and have been running SETI@Home for longer than I can remember. Right now, it seems I've been switched to Astropulse which I'll need to research and figure out.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
1. It's easy, and I might just run into ET. I realize that while there may be many habitable planets in the universe and even the galaxy, there are likely many less within communications range. Needing to be listening just when a civilization is in at a communications-able state further narrows the number, but if we don't listen, we'll never know.
2. I think it has spawned an incredible technology to capitalize on idle computers. If they're running, they're consuming kilowatt-hours, we might as well get some benefit for the energy cost.
3. If I understood more about it I might have. Right now, I'm content to let you all use my idle computer time. |
