Personal background
Hi,
I started SETI on May 25 1999 with a 'state of the art' Pentium 166:). Now I have an Athlon 1.4GHz, not much difference is there:). I been working for a steel company for nearly 27years. I have 3 kids, one of them is now 18 so I guess he is no kid anymore. Two girls as well. Been married for nearly 20 years. I live in a small village near Scunthorpe. Hopefully I will reach 10000 WU's before SETI2 starts. Happy crunching everyone.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
When I found out that the berkeley university was setting out a project to search for ET I was eager to take part in the search. Hopefully the search will be ongoing for a long time to come, or until we find ET. One question, will SETI@HOME stop searchng for ET if we find it?
I'm sure the project is worthwhile, even if it only means that, we as the Human race can act as one in searching for a goal. It almost gives me faith that the Human race will survive the struggles we are facing in the world today.
ET is probably out there but I can almost understand why they are hard to find with all the signals we have been sending out there. If they are out there then making first contact could be difficult, if they are more advanced than we are then it will be up to them to make contact, if they are less advanced then it will be up to us to make contact with them when space flight is possible. I know that one day we will have some sort of space flight. Getting to distant worlds maybe a bit more difficult but we will achive it. Hopefully we will be advanced enough to accept them for what they are and vice versa for them. There will be difficulties as there has been in the past with the human race, but we will overcome them eventually. It is possibly the 'final frontier' to coin a frase and the benifits could be enormous for us and possibly ET too. Maybe! It is too late to worry about transmitting signals from us, we have been transmitting in one form or another for almost 100 years, so we will eventually reap the benifit of surcome to hostile intervention. Who knows, only time will tell. The prospects of finding ET is facinating, what will they be like? will they be friendly etc? We are living in a universe full of wonder and at this time we may be making break throughs in the sciences. It a pity that we don't get much more feedback from the Seti team, but I guess they are busy people.
