Personal background
i live in switzerland, though my roots are german.
im a young man of about 18 years and i still go to school.
i'm very interested in computers, but i don't forget the fun: i relatively often go to lan-parties, but not to get the prices (would be nice, too), but rather to have fun.
i got to seti@home through my clan-mates (www.zooomclan.org). in the beginning, my opinion about seti@home wasn't too positive, but then i started having a seti-client running, and now i like it very much.
i have 2 computers running seti:
-an athlon 700, which is also my personal pc i take to lans and everything
-an celeron 466, which works as my proxy now.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
the first thing i want to say here is that i do think that running seti has a sense, and if only for the scientific aspect.
i don't expect us finding other intelligence in the next few years, but i expect life to be somewhere in the universe, because: why should what happened here not be repeated (or it repeated on earth) somewhere in this universe? if the universe is really this big, then the chance, that, what happened on earth, has happened somewhere else too, is rather big.
or otherwise said: universe is too big for us alone, it would be just a waste of space...
