Personal background
Hi, I'm Hans Valentijn and I'm 45 years old. I live in Badhoevedorp, a small town near Amsterdam (Netherlands). I am married and for 27 years I work in the ICT business (currently I am a manager of a bunch of specialists). My hobbies are pike fishing and darts. I also spend al lot of time keeping my computers in good order, so that my two kids can keep on gaming and (every now and then) use them for educational purposes . Allthough I tried to introduce them to the fascinating, but also frustrating world of computers, they still use them as a tv set, frequently but like a user.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I hope and think that extraterrestial life exists or existed. Otherwise it would be an awful waste of space out there... Given the period that we are around, chances are we that we have missed them. Even so, we got to make an effort to find them or what's left of them. Maybe SETI will help.

If we do find them still around, I hope they will be patient and wise... eh beings. They will need that wisdom to cope with us. I've got no idea what to send to them. If they are intelligent, by now through our radio and tv signals they will have gotten an idea of what to expect from us... not much I'm afraid. Nevertheless we must try to find them, maybe it will help the world to become a better place and set aside all stupid religious and other differences.

I know I will keep on trying as long as SETI allows me.
