Profile: Gary Morton

Personal background
My name is Gary and I'm a 46yo social worker. I am married and I have five kids. I live in rural Victoria, Australia and I am very interested in the SETI. My view is that we are being studied by ETs and have been for eons. This is because we are a brilliant case study. Why? Because even though we know we are destroying our planet, we can't get enough agreement amongst ourselves to stop it. I can just imagine these beings saying to their students or to other civilisations: "Look what happens if you are left to your own devices." We must look so stupid to them. So sadly, I don't think they would be interested in talking to us or even paying us an official visit any time soon, if at all, because basically, we are too aggressive. Think about it. There is always a war happening somewhere on the planet because we want someone else's resources or land or because we don't like the way some people look or even think. As long as we keep this up we are considered too dangerous to approach. Frankly, if another race were to introduce themselves to us we would be so scared that we'd attack them. If they were to wait until we have reached the point of definite self destruction, we'd be so desperate to get off this dying planet we'd swamp them, begging them to save us,to take us away. If they refused we'd probably attack them for their technology so we could get off the planet ourselves. And where would we go? Probably to their planet and then we'd attack them for their resources. Let's not rule out too that there are a great many of us that would want to kill them because their religious or political views would be different or offensive. The more I think of it, the more I think that a sophisticated and intelligent race would affect some kind of emition to scramble any messages they have transmitted to prevent us from receiving it. They are better off keeping us at a safe distance. But having said that, I still have some hope that I am wrong and I am happy for that to be proved.
