Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Do I think extraterrestrial life exists?
If you look at it from a scientific standpoint, the universe is a big place. I don't know the exact math involved, but seems to me that all of the possible combinations of a planet, the right distance from a star, and the right chemicals coming together to allow life to happen, could, from a statistical point of view.
What do I believe???
I think if life can spark here, it can spark some where else. If that spark is caused by chemistry or by the act of a higher power, I don't know.
I think we should continue to search. The risk vs. rewards could lean toward either side, I would sure like to find out. I think communication/language will be a large initial barrier, heck, we may be listening/looking for the wrong signs right now.
I think we should transmit a very short, high power, rapidly repeating signal, containing only location information.
Why do I run SETI@home? I want to be the one that finds something!
Suggestions? Keep up the good work, thanks to those who put forth the effort. |
