Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It is a statistical certainty that planets that support life as we know it exist in the universe. Unfortunately the universe is rather big. Then again, life does not necessarily have to be `as we know it'.
We may find extraterrestrial life tomorrow, or never, since Earth will eventually be destroyed by the sun (or ourselves).
There is no limit to the benefits that can be obtained from such a find, but we can only hope that mankind will be sufficiently civilized to avoid the dangers.

I run SETI@home because I want to do my bit, however small, to help us towards that magnificent and wonderful day when we make contact with extraterrestrial life. I don't know if I will be alive to see it, but I fervently hope so.
