Profile: Seryan

Personal background
I'm from Maritime Canada, and I've been fascinated by space and the idea that we are not alone my whole life. In my spare time I read, and write, science fiction, as well as build scale models, again mostly science fiction, and I also like to quilt and cross-stitch.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home because I believe that SETI is one of the most important projects humanity has ever undertaken, a bold step towards our understanding of ourselves, and our place in the cosmos. It is a symbol, a showing, of our ability to look beyond ourselves, of our too-often unused ability to see ourselves not as the be-all and end-all, but as a part of the whole. SETI@home gives me the opportunity to be a part of something larger than myself, even in a small way, something all humans crave, perhaps all sentient beings. I believe there is intelligent life elsewhere, broadcasting its signals, perhaps even looking for ours. I believe SETI can tell us, and I believe that SETI@home will help us get our answer that much faster.
