Personal background
I'm 62 and am currently live near Tampa, FL, most of the time. From as early as I can remember, I have been fascinated by the stars, space, and science fiction. [p]

I am a USAF-trained radio technician and hold an Advanced class ham radio ticket (kj4oe). I have spent the last 25 years as a hotel and restaurant evaluator for AAA, a "tourist spy", as it were, mostly on the east coast, and currently have my own company continuing that work.[p]
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Given the expanse of space and the number of galaxies, it is illogical to assume that we are alone. I believe other life will be discovered if, and only if, it wants to be. As a race, I do not feel we are ready for the stars. That time will come when we have demonstrated we can solve our own social problems, nationally as well as on a global scale. [p]

My computers are on and idle most of the time. SETI@home allows them to be productive for the kws consumed over that time. Beyond the search for ET, the Bionic program has demonstrated the utility of distributed computing to the point it is surprising that more companies do not employ the technique within the confines of their intranets.[p]

SETI@home user, at this point, only Dancy2
