Personal background
I am a small-business owner, living with my partner, Tom, in Washington state. Until 2003 I was a mainframe systems guy. Tom works as a conductor for the railroad - an exciting and fun job!

My dream is to someday hear the news that we've finally detected an artificial signal from another solar system. The societies of this planet are advancing poorly due to petty little territorial and value/belief system squabbles along with self-absorption issues. This all results in ignorance, self-delusion, and xenophobia; we need a radically new paradigm. I personally believe that confirmation of extrasolar intelligence would provide this.

I've always been a fan of science (astronomy in particular), computers, aviation (private pilot), meteorology, and science fiction. We're both fans of Star Trek and the New Dr. Who. In our spare time, we like to explore the area we live in and the West as a whole: camping, hiking, road trips, train watching, and 4x4 off-roading. I'm also a traditional and country/western dancer (with more emphasis on the western). When the solar cycle his its 11-year high we travel to Alaska to experience and photograph the aurora.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home to hopefully hasten the day that we confirm that we are not alone. I've recently upgraded to a quad-core machine to help with my contributions, and plan to add another machine soon. One suggestion is to have more background data/white papers readily available on the homepage so that people can learn more about the science behind the project.
