Profile: Scott Carmichael

Personal background
I'm in between my 3rd and 4th year of Computer Science at the University of Calgary with (current) plans on doing some sort of Master's degree afterwards in the San Francisco area (Berkeley or Stanford). I'm 20 years old and my hobbies are everything from Computers to Snowboarding to Amateur film making. I'm learning Spanish now, and have some knowledge of Latin, with further plans on learning Russian and German, along with anything else I can pick up, perhaps Esperanto or something. Also, I like pulling pranks like the one depicted in the picture I'm submitting with this profile. :)

Anyways, that's me in a nutshell.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yeah, I do. Perhaps once we're able to travel ourselves further than just to our moon, we'll find the life ourselves... Or maybe I'll process the seti@home chunk that proves that life is out there and singaling to us. :)
2. I think we should, yeah. Some sort of data depicting a crude representation of ourselves, and maybe of a DNA helix or something. Along with some mathematics, maybe, as math should be the universal language to all intelligent life.
3. I've got a FreeBSD box running here that does basically nothing but mail and web hosting, along with all the processing time of my workstation(s), all being wasted... Also, I'd like to find life on other planets, and I'm glad to be a part of this effort. It's also neat to see just how much processing power we can obtain by this project. Quite cool.
