Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am glad that there is such a project as SETI going on. It would be good to know there is someone else out there. But I do NOT think we should send a beacon. If a race responded with a visit, I think it would end badly for us. Maybe that is my cynical nature, but that is how I feel. Firstly, we need to get Humankind out into the Solar System, living and working. We need to have ongoing colonies on the Moon, Mars and beyond. And have regular transport, trade, communications between said colonies. Then we would be on more of an equal basis should we actually be paid a visit by "someone else".

I run SETI@home to make my small contribution to the effort, to participate in the big project.
