Profile: Richard Powell

Personal background
My name is Richard, I am 25 years old and live in England. My home is in a quiet little town in Shropshire, which is near enough right in the middle of England. I currently work in a boring IT job, which I have done for the past 4 years, but at present I am hoping to start a new career as a Police officer.

I am still a big kid at heart because my main hobby is my PC, or anything remotely technical, as I am always upgrading it or buying the latest electronic gadget to hit the market. My other hobbies include keeping myself fit as I regularly go to the gym, and hanging out with friends. Really, thats about as exciting as it gets in sunny old England.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am running SETI@home because I have a very open mind towards the question of weather we are alone in the universe. As it has been said a thousand times before, I think it is very selfish and bigheaded of us to think we are alone.

I love the thought of there being millions of other intelligences in the universe, most of which could well be far more advanced than we are. If only the human race was civilized enough to justify them making contact.

I think it is a great shame that the SETI project has been threatened with closure, and has had to resort to asking people to make donations in order to keep going. Such a project, that would have a profound impact on life as we know it when they eventually do find life elsewhere, should without a doubt continually receive government funding.

Maybe its about time for the governments of this world to stop bickering amongst them selves, while fighting over materialistic things, and focus on ways that could benefit the human race a whole.
