Personal background
My profession has absolutely nothing to do with astronomy or anything closely related for the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. No, I am an ER Nurse so my primary focus has been trying to find intelligence in those that come to a trauma center and spend 8 hours in a waiting room for treatment of a pimple or ingrown toenail :-) Having failed in my search there I decided I had best help look to the stars. Since my first computer, the TRS-80, my primary hobby is building hotrod gaming computers for myself and friends. Consequently, I often have several working computers about which are made of parts descended from my primary rig. I also love messing about with Linux so currrently I have a dedicated Seti computer running Ubuntu 5 linux on an AMD 2600 with 1024 MB RAM.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I've always been more then casually interested in science- primarily evolution, physics and astronomy. I am a strong believer in the evolution of life, and not just on earth but the entire universe. The chances that there are other forms of life out there is without question, it's just a case of finding them. I often wonder what the sociological implications will be when we find other intelligent life- and we will. Will it unite us? I sure hope so, we could use that. Or perhaps they\\'ve already surveyed us and found us too warlike. In any case, it will be an event that changes our world. I\\'d like to thank the astronomers that gather and analyse the data we process and the programmers that created and run seti@home. What a fantastic idea!
