Personal background
I'm 49, 5'9", a little on the plump side, wear glasses for reading, & like talking, discussing, debating, even arguing especially over a nice meal in a restaurant drinking a fine wine. I am blessed with a fine loving family, starting at the top a partner of nearly twenty years standing of 2 boys & 1 girl and I myself am part of an extended family of 5 siblings 2 girls & 3 boys all of these, both mown & the extended, are grown up and most of whom have families of their own, there are nephews, nieces, sons & daughters-in-law, grandsons and granddaughters too many to mention, besides which is Tiggy the coal black Basset Labrador cross.

I met my partner while at university, we were both mature students, alas I left school without any qualifications, which was largely due to the fact that I had a somewhat catastrophic accident at boarding school in Scotland: I was shot through the head. This left me disabled, I was paralysed down the right side & it removed 40% of my brain.

I eventually found a place at a university in order to study my more academic interests, I majored in Philosophy, Logic, Ethics, Religious studies, Terrorism, and had minor dalliances with Politics, the History of Science, Peace studies. Over the next 15yrs. I managed to gain some academic qualifications including an honours degree in Philosophy some minor qualifications in several other subjects Psychology, Physics, Sociology, and various computer studies. After this I found myself inappropriately skilled and over qualified, having arthritis and etc.

I originally came from the North West, but after gaining the degree at Lancaster I moved to Cornwall, where my partner had relations. At the moment we live in a little village in Cornwall. For a time I was engaged in various academic studies, Exeter university outreach collages etc., but now my interests lie more in the organizing and maintaining of local disability groups and various charity activities.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think it is fairly likely that some kind of extraterrestrial life does exist, but as to weather two or more sentient life forms exists concurrently with each other and the possibility that these might become mutually aware and communicate, I think, that this may be possible but highly improbable? It would seem probable that the 'lower' less complex organisms - bacteria & etc., - would be fairly widespread throughout the universe but with increasingly less probability the 'higher' & more complex the organism. But seemingly contradictory would that, I would think, that there is a quite high possibility that if this were to be so, there would be a quite high probability that the two would be similar: chemically and to a certain degree physically.

I don't think anyone has assessed to any degree at what stage is life possible (in the life of the universe or which galaxies it may possible, and in which areas it may be possible or impossible in, & etc.,) we may be in the early stages of assessing the criteria for the early questions of where in this solar system is it possible or probable, and we might be answering some of the questions related to why and where it would be more or less probable in this galaxy:- on the top edge of the spiral arms & etc. . .is there an area in the life span of the universe, galaxies, etc., that is more conducive to the formation of a stable platform for life, I suspect there is such a time frame, but, as to how narrow or wide this is, I don't think is yet known? It may be that such a window is dependant on the physical size shape & so on of the galaxy, & so there might be varyingly vast differences between these possibilities & probabilities, we just don't know anything like the criteria or even the size of such a list of criteria?

Having said this & I'm sure I haven't covered half the criteria yet known about, all 'journeys begin with a single pace' & after the first one is near the end, & after all that is what life is all about, not what is at the end of the journey but ho
