I am from Apeldoorn in The Netherlands. I'm a IT Changemanager and I run Seti@Home @home offcourse.
I am a proud member of Seti@Netherlands. Our team is currently the 4th team of the world and we have more then 5000 members. We just try to show what a small country can be big in.
Besides S@H and S@NL I love to ride my Dodge W200 pick-up truck and am crazy about Science Fiction, Star Trek in particular. I also own all the books Stephen King has ever written.
I also like to travel and have been to the States and Canada 8 times now and I've been 4 times Down Under. |

Why I run Seti@Home:
I became interested in the S@H project because of an article I read in a Dutch magazine in January 2000. Because I was allways interested in the possibility of ETI it didn't take me long to download the client and crunch on.
The Project:
I run S@H because I'm intrigued with the possibility, how small it may be, that we would really find something. Although it is not likely we can communicate it would be great to know we are not alone.
Thoughts about ETI?
Well, since i am a real Trekkie, I hope that we will be spotted by a race like the Vulcans. That way we can benefit from a higher intelligence. But, knowing that is only fiction, i just hope we will find friendlies. There is always a change that a ETI who finds us is not really friendly.
I think we have been transmitting more then enough signals into space. But what if the first thing they pick up from us is a episode of the Jerry Springer show? I don't think they will be very eager to make contact in that case. I don't think humanity is ready for contact. We don't have our own stuff in order. War, starvation etc. To be a member of a bigger whole, we must first be united ourselfs. Well, we'll see what the future brings. Anyway, I'm crunching more data because you just never know..... |
