Personal background
I am 35 years old and live in Copenhagen, Denmark. I am a machinist currently studing technical engineering. I also have education in computer programming, but I prefer riding my bicycle. After giving up work as a machinist and before starting my engineering education i worked as a bicycle messenger for a couple of years.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I sincerely hope so, it is the best chance that there is intelligent life anywhere. I don't think it is a question of when or how we discover ET but whether we are willing to acknowledge it when we do.
2. We are already doing so. Even if it is a bad idea it is too late to do anything about it. But mainstream TV is probable not the best signal to be sending.
3. I have allways found it a waste to have a powerful computer standing idle. In the past i have used Fractint to keep my computer busy but it got boring after a while. SETI@home seems a more worthwhile way to occupy my machine. The reason I haven't joined SETI@home earlier is that my old machine was too noisy to keep on all the time. Now I have gotten a new quieter one so now that is no longer a problem.
