If we ever are visted by an alien civilization more than likely it will be in the form of a probe or a satelite of some type. And unless they posses the ability to travel through worm holes or fold space and time chances are we'll end up study them from a far and analizing signals from space the way we analize fossils, because there is a good possiblity that they have been outlived by their own technology and are extinct.
